BRIAN FRENCH has served as Director of Development for two companies in Costa Rica with responsibility for development, construction and procurement contracting, and contract management of the 14 MW Don Pedro and the 17 MW Río Volcán hydroelectric projects in Costa Rica and the 15 MW Matanzas project in Guatemala. He was also responsible for completing construction of an additional 19 MW hydroelectric project in Costa Rica. In addition, he led the preparation of a build, operate, turnover (BOT) bid for a 50 MW project in Costa Rica and was responsible for locating and evaluating potential project acquisitions in Panama, Honduras, and El Salvador.
As Manager of Engineering for three US companies, Brian has managed and participated in the evaluation of sites for development, environmental studies, permitting and licensing of projects, contracting for procurement and construction, contract management and plant operation and upgrading. The hydroelectric projects constructed in the US under Brian’s supervision totaled 22 MW. In addition, Brian managed the construction and commissioning of a 33 turbine, 99 MW windfarm.
Brian has evaluated the feasibility of sites for development, selected generating equipment providers, drafted and negotiated EPC contracts for equipment procurement and construction of projects, negotiated environmental mitigation with regulating agencies and interfaced with interconnecting utilities during construction and start-up. He has also provided technical services as an independent consultant.
Brian holds Master of Engineering Science and Bachelor of Civil Engineering degrees from the National University of Ireland and is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
