ROB PRATT is the founder, Chair & CEO of Pacific Clean Energy Partners.  He has been a national and international leader in clean energy and climate solutions for more than 40 years, as a for-profit and non-profit entrepreneur, a clean energy funder, and a governmental leader. He has founded or co-founded four companies and three non-profit organizations, directed Massachusetts’ $250 million Renewable Energy Trust, led the clean energy funding for a foundation, and was Executive Director of the New England Congressional Caucus in the US House of Representatives.  He has also been a policy leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy for much of his career—on Capitol Hill in Washington, through the clean energy companies that he has founded, and through his service on the boards of seven non-profit organizations dedicated to clean energy policy development and implementation.

For more than 20 years, Rob was the Chairman of the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC), a non-profit organization that he founded in 1984. The IIEC’s mission is to dramatically increase the use of energy efficiency as an important clean energy approach in developing and emerging market countries, and its work in more than 50 countries has reduced energy demand by thousands of MWs.  With offices in Bangkok, New Delhi, and Manila, the IIEC has leveraged its local presence and partnerships to bring about progress in energy efficiency policy and implementation, as well as greenhouse gas emission reductions, in developing and emerging market countries around the world.

As a developer, Rob has worked with partners to develop more than $300 million in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.  He was the founder, Chairman & CEO of Energia Global International (EGI, now Enel Green Power), which became one of the leading renewable energy development companies in Central America. From a startup in 1991, EGI became the largest private power company in Costa Rica through the development, financing and construction of high head hydroelectric and wind projects, with substantial power and distribution assets in Guatemala, El Salvador, and ultimately Chile.  Representative projects included:

  • P.H. Don Pedro S.A., 14 MW high head hydroelectric facility, San Miguel, Costa Rica

  • P.H. Rio Volcan S.A., 17 MW high head hydroelectric facility, San Miguel, Costa Rica

  • Tierras Morenas (MOVASA), 24 MW wind farm, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

  • El Canada, 46 MW high head hydroelectric facility, on Rio Samala River, Guatemala

Rob also has been a leading developer of energy efficiency projects. He was the founder, Chairman & CEO of GreenerU, Inc., a company dedicated to helping colleges and universities become climate leaders while reducing energy, water and infrastructure costs. GreenerU is one of the largest energy and sustainability services companies working with colleges in the six-state New England region, installing efficient lighting, energy management systems, boilers and chillers, and comprehensive energy efficiency retrofits in college buildings, laboratories, dormitories, gymnasiums, athletic facilities, power and cogeneration plants, and other campus facilities.  During Rob’s tenure as CEO, the company was named to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America in both 2014 and 2015.  In addition, GreenerU received the “Breakout Company of the Year” award from the New England Clean Energy Council in 2014.

Rob has been active on the boards of many clean energy non-profit organizations, including the IIEC (Chairman), the American Council on Renewable Energy (Chairman), Alliance to Save Energy (Treasurer), Northeast Clean Energy Council (co-founder), the Center for Sustainable Development in the Americas (Chairman), and the Cambridge Energy Alliance (President).  He received an MPA degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, a JD degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and a BA degree from Wesleyan University.
